CORNHILL PARISH COUNCIL currently has four elected members, one co-opted member, and two vacancies. The meetings are held at 6.00pm in the Village Hall on the Second Thursday of alternate months  – May, July, September, November, January and March, with the Annual General Meeting being held before the Ordinary Meeting in May.

Agendas for all the meetings are posted a week in advance on the noticeboards in Cornhill and Donaldson’s Lodge, and also on this website, where the minutes are also lodged as soon as possible after the meetings. All meetings are open to the public, and a request is made for parishioners’ questions to be submitted in writing (or by email) to the Clerk at least three days before the date of the meeting.

Play Area

The unsafe climbing frame is to be removed.   Replacement equipment will be considered at a later date, but this will require grant money to purchase.

Litter picking

The Parish Council continues to carry out litter picking on the two main roads through Cornhill.   This is mainly done by the parish Councillors and Clerk, but local resident, David Richmond, has joined the team on each occasion.   We document a risk assessment for each session, and wear high viz jackets.   These are marked with Northumberland County Council on the back, but we are all volunteers and not doing community work as a punishment!!   Each time we do the litter picks, we fill at least a dozen black dustbin bags, the litter having been thrown from passing vehicles.   You would be surprised what we pick up!”

Any volunteers to help would always be welcome.

Donaldsons Lodge old phone box

The phone box has been purchased by the Parish Council for the sum of  £1.00.   It is now being used as a book exchange, and leaflets relevant to the area may also be placed in there.

Grass and hedge cutting

Mick, Parish Council Chairman, works tirelessly to get the County Council to cut the grass regularly in Cornhill and Donaldsons Lodge.    We were led to understand this should be done regularly during the summer months, but sadly this does not seem to be the case.    It is important to keep the footpaths free of grass and weeds to avoid tripping, slipping and nettle stings on dogs’ pads.   Overhanging hedges are also a problem for pedestrians, and we endeavour to have these pruned when necessary.   We have been told, however, that hedges may not be pruned between 1st February and 1st August to protect nesting birds.

Potholes

The County Council has introduced a new way of reporting potholes.
